Gyaru is probably is one of the most commonly seen street fashion in Japan, specially on the streets of Harajuku and Shibuya in Tokyo. The overall look of a Gyaru was reportedly inspired by a hit American television series in the 80s called Baywatch. They are known to show qualities that are completely the opposite of typical Asian beauty standards, tanned skin and bleached hair instead of fair skin and dark hair. Gyaru fashion can really vary, it depends on the substyle that someone is wearing, it could be something casual, it could be something all dark, it could be mature, it could Japanese uniform inspired and so on. 1. Dress and thigh high socks

Gyarus are often seen wearing short dresses paired with thigh high socks and some high heeled shoes. This style is very cute and girly and you can see why this is very popular with Gyarus. Hair for this style is usually big or teased with some cute hair accessories like bows or flower headbands for a more girly effect. Just how adorable is that?

2. School uniform inspired (Kogal)

School uniforms are usually, well, for attending school, but in Japan, it can be considered as a fashion statement. There is no denying that Japanese school uniforms are cute and stylish that's why it is regarded as such. Kogal, a substyle under Gyaru, is known to wear outfits based on Japanese school uniforms with loose knee high socks, very short skirt and of course, dyed or bleached hair. This type of Gyaru wear is typically worn by a substyle called Amekaji, where they adopt a stereotypical American image into their outfits. The striking colors like hot pink and neon green is what makes this style sweet and adorable while keeping Gyaru trademarks in check.

6. Modern Gyaru

It is said that Gyaru style is not as popular today than when it first emerged in the Japanese street fashion scene, but it doesn't mean that it's not making an appearance here and there in present times, instead, people find ways to make Gyaru fashion a little bit more "modernized", like this look pictured above. 9. Pink Onee Gyaru

Onee Gyaru is another substyle under Gyaru which focuses on being more "mature" and has a great emphasis on brands and labels. The name literally translates into "big sister gal". This pink onee Gyaru style is perfect for an adorable Gyaru look, though onee Gyarus usually go for darker colors to really project maturity and the "big sister" image.

10. Winter Gyaru styles

These Gyaru winter fashion would make you want to swoon. They are too adorable and are definitely an eye candy. Their hairstyle, hair color and outfits completely compliments each other, making them look dreamy, beautiful, floaty and adorable.
