Don’t get me wrong, there is totally nothing wrong with school uniforms. Me, writing this article, doesn’t mean that I have this huge grudge with them. As someone who went to schools who have required uniforms, they could be the savior for days when the pieces of clothes inside your closet just don’t seem to match or you are too tired or too lazy to even arrange an outfit that you are just grateful that you have uniforms that are ready to wear and basically does not require any sort of fashion sense at all.
But, there will always be days where students are not required to wear the prescribed uniforms and then that will really get you thinking, “What will I wear?” If you have days like that, well, you are not alone. I know that academic institutions are not a fashion runway but as a girl, I think it is really common that we care about how we dress and how we look generally.
If you are the type that just puts on the first thing they see in their closet and totally rocks it, you go girl! You do you. Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable, whether it be simple sweatpants and a shirt combo or the oldest jeans and tee you have.
But, if you are the type that constantly searches the internet for outfit inspirations and prepares your clothes the night before wearing them, well, this is one of those articles that will help you with that.
Just a note, school rules regarding clothes differ from one another. Others are more lenient, like allowing shorts and skirts and clothes that show off a bit of skin, while others are very strict and discipline when it comes to the type and the length of the clothes that the students can wear.
So if you are a new student at your school and you will be having your first day out of your school uniform, it is better to read the student handbook and/or ask your seniors first on the rules when it comes to clothes.
Now that that is out of the way, here are 12 kawaii outfits that you can totally wear at school!
Starting with the basic of all basics, this is that one outfit that you can never go wrong with. No teachers to reprimand you, no classmates looking at you weirdly and it is very difficult to look bad in this. That is right, jeans and a T-shirt. Let’s all admit it, we all have days where we don’t really feel like dressing up. It is not necessary to dress up in your fab garbs every time and if you are feeling a little under the weather, there is absolutely nothing wrong with putting on the basic jean, shirt, sneaker outfit.
Anything oversized, whether it be a sweater, a cardigan, or a jacket, on top of your outfit, is already considered cute. It’s perfect for windy and rainy days, it’s comfortable and provides extra protection for when you want to hide a bit of skin. I think the cutest thing about oversized clothing is that they drown your frame, making you look smaller than normal.
If your school allows you, try wearing mini plaid skirts, especially those plaids in neutral colors like browns and beige. They are easier to style and the majority of the colors mix well with them so it won’t be that hard to match your tops. See how cute they look with an oversized coat? That is what I mean by added protection. Wearing a short skirt might be uncomfortable for some but an oversized jacket or cardigan will do the work as they help, at least a bit, cover some parts of your legs.
For this particular outfit, it is always a 100% better when you tuck in your tops. If they are form-fitting tops, they will cinch in your waist and if they are looser tops, they will create that little bubble, making the outfit look softer and elegant.
This is actually one of the prettiest layering combinations I have ever seen. It is known as the “Tank over T-shirt” look and is totally wearable at school. If you are looking for a way to show off a pretty tank top you recently purchase but your school doesn’t allow sleeveless shirts or maybe you are the shy type, fear not for T-shirts are on their way to save you. Overlay that tank top on a simple white shirt and pair it with your trusty bottoms and you’ll be good to go.
It might not be a simple tank top but instead a controversial dress with a wide-plunge neckline, or a deep-v, but it would surely be a waste to not wear it. To the dress version of the “Tank over T-shirt” look, a dress too is too adorable for this outfit. This outfit is perfect for summer weather.
Jumpsuits. Come on, who doesn’t love jumpsuits? They are one of the comfiest pieces of clothing ever made and they too are one of the prettiest layering combinations I have ever laid my eyes on. The straps that connect to the bottoms really adds a cute effect to the simple outfit. They can go skinny or wide-legged if you want. I highly doubt that this cute outfit is not allowed in any schools so this is one of those wear-and-go outfits and that can never go wrong.
Button-ups are always, or more than often a misinterpreted piece of clothing. Some would say that button-ups are only for formal interviews or a serious business setting type of cloth. I object, Your Honor! Button-ups are actually very versatile and sometimes, it all depends on your bottoms. These are very good tops to pair with almost everything. A casual day? Wear it with high-waisted shorts. A job interview? No worries, wear it with slacks. Meeting your boyfriend’s family? Skinny jeans would be perfect.
See? If you have tons of button-ups stuck in your closet, with only the intent of wearing them for formal school events, wear them the next time you are allowed to and see how they blend well even on a casual day.
If your school allows it, why not, right? If you love a good piece of clothing that elongates your legs, high-waisted shorts can be that perfect piece. This also looks good with all types of tops. Remember when I mentioned that you can pair your button-up with high-waisted shorts and it can totally change the look? Yup, the photo above justifies that. If a school event is held over summery weather, try and flaunt your high-waisted shorts.
If you have a conservative father like mine, then your father will love this outfit. By definition, a midi skirt is that line between a short skirt and a long skirt. If you are not a fan of short skirts and not too fond of super long skirts either then the midi length is perfect for you. You will look a bit conservative with this skirt but I think that with the right top, it will look totally cute as a school outfit. With a knitted sweatshirt, you will totally adorable, and with a hoodie, you will extrude that laidback and chill aura. You can also pair this with a tank top, giving the look a bit of skin. This is also another one those outfits that I am sure is allowed in all schools.
Also another commonly misinterpreted piece of clothing. Just like a button-up, a blazer doesn’t have to be used for formal purposes or events only. And it all depends on the bottoms. With a short denim skirt, it gives you that classy look without looking all too formal. It can even look like a casual cover-up with distressed jeans and shoes.
If you love your school vest a bit too much, well I have the perfect outfit for you. A knitted vest over button-ups is totally wearable for school. This outfit is also an addendum to the ways to use your buttons up other than for formal settings. You can totally rock this outfit with all types of bottoms. It can either be a denim short, a midi skirt, your trusty skinny jeans.
This last outfit is your school uniform but not your school uniform. Does that make sense? Probably not. But the general thought of this uncanny school outfit is recreating your school uniform with your own twist. We all know that school uniforms can be...boring. It’s all plain, prim, and proper but when you recreate your own, you can totally add in all sorts of elements. Instead of properly tucked in button-up, you can go a bit crazy and loosen up or completely stray away from your school colors and wear it with your favorite ones.
That’s it! Outfits that you can wear at school. I hope that this article has sparked up your creative juices and has you thinking about what school outfit you can wear next.
