If you’re like me, an extreme homebody, our room is our safe haven and nothing compares to it. It’s the most comforting and relaxing place in the entirety of the world. It’s where we spend most of our time and usually where the important activities take place such as sleeping, studying and working. However, for some of us, the mood of these activities depends heavily on the atmosphere of the room.
That’s why if you’re that type of person whose entire mood depends on the ambience of your surroundings, I bet you have been splurging on a few home and room decor to set up your desired feeling and atmosphere. Or you might have realized that your unproductivity was because of your dull and simple room and is on a commitment to have a complete room makeover.
So for sure, you’ve looked up images on Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration and you found everyone’s holy grail, aesthetics. Dazzled by it, you are now on a journey to have your room as aesthetically pleasing and visually stunning as much as possible but where do you start?
But remember, you will be the one to stay in this room and not anyone else. The best piece of advice I can give you is don’t let anyone dictate or design your room for you. You can ask for opinions but if the opinion or suggestion doesn’t sit well with you, thank the person and just move on. What’s important here is that you are comfortable and the outcome of the room is something that you like. If you like it basic and simple, go ahead and don’t let this article convince you otherwise.
But if you have been searching highs and lows for tips on making your room aesthetically pleasing, you are in the right place! I promise you, it’s not going to be that hard. In fact, you only need to nail down 5 tips to achieve that dreamy and visually stunning looking room.
1. Color Scheme
Deciding on the color scheme of the room has to be your first step. Leave the purchases for room decors later and carefully think of colors that motivates you and that matches well when put together. Usually, individuals would already have a color scheme in mind but if you’re a bit lost, Pinterest would be a good place to go and search for some inspiration.
If you’re aiming for that pure feminine aura, pastel colors and white will look good together. But some would always stay true to neutral combinations like black, white and grey. This is because this would automatically look cleaner and well put together. It is also easier to add different accents and pops of colors around the room.
The color scheme set the whole mood of the room. It is immediately noticeable what type of person occupies the said area based on the colors combinations of the wall and its surrounding decor. If you want to unleash your personality, choose the color scheme that suits you and your personality best. (And of course, it has to be something you absolutely like!)
2. Pinboards and Polaroids
In every room decoration and makeover session, there will always be that one corner or one wall that you just don’t know what to do with it. If yes, maybe consider placing in a pinboard filled with your favorite quotes or prints or a portrait wall of your best and memorable polaroids.
This is easily the most common decor that every room has, whether they are aiming for an aesthetic room or not. Not only is this easier to design and beautiful to look at, but it also gives a personal touch to the room. So gather your favorite photographs, treasured polaroids and prints of your favorite quotes and allot a time of the day to arrange them to your liking.
Other than for visual purposes, doesn’t it make you happy and inspired? Sometimes, all we need is a walk down memory lane to relax or boost of motivation from our favorite quotes to get through. What better way would be to have them where you can easily see them?
3. Add a dash of green
Having a plant with you in your room is automatically aesthetic. That’s it. That’s the rule. There’s just something about having that dash of green that makes a room look fresh and natural to look at. However, this is not for everyone. In fact, this tip doesn’t even apply to me. Because if you lack the green thumb (like I do) and have left your trusty plant to just wither and die, it will totally remove that freshness your room once has.
But if you’re confident in your plant-caring techniques and skills, I recommend keeping a plant or plants with you in the room. Other than being aesthetically pleasing, it is believed to also have health benefits. Plants like Jasmine and Aloe Vera help you have a good night rest while some like Lavender, Lady Palm and English Ivy have air purifying effects.
But for some of us cursed with the non-existing green thumb, do not worry! Fake plants are our best friends. You could check your nearest store, purchase a few that you think would look great in your room and you’re good to go!
4. Natural and Fairy Lights
One of the best ways to accentuate the aesthetics of your room is by shedding some light. In my personal opinion, natural light is the best. They have a lot of health benefits such as saving energy, increasing focus, reducing blood pressure, stress, anxiety, can boost your immune system and a lot more. But I do understand not all of us have access to natural lights in our room and that’s why fairy lights are still a trend.
The thing about fairy lights is that they are really pretty to look at. If you designed your room with a princess, fairy-tale-like theme, the fairy lights will make it look more dreamy and whimsical. One of the best things about it, and if you know your way around energy-saving purchases, is that they are manufactured using energy-efficient LED lights, they use 70% less energy and last 10 times longer than common incandescent lights. In other words, if you want your room to look pretty all day, you will have no worries using fairy lights and still maintaining low electricity bills.
5. Organization is key
This is self-explanatory and out of all the tips, this is what I consider the most important. You may have an on-point color scheme, you have pretty polaroids up in your wall, inspiring quotes on your pinboard, beautiful plants and fantastic lights but all of that pales when you struggle to keep your stuff organized.
Even a simple room, without all the things mentioned above, can look pleasing to the eyes for the mere reason that it is kept clean and organized. With this, I mean, everything has its own place. Remember, you gave your room a makeover because you want to keep your mood up, you want to relax and you want to be productive. But, no matter how pretty the room is, if you can’t keep your things in order, you will still be stressing out about how messy and unkempt it is.
Always keep in the mind the amount of things you have and make sure you have enough storage spaces to keep them intact. If you must, install shelves and maybe look into those furnitures that have added storage spaces underneath.
So, that is basically it! 5 simple tips to achieve that aesthetically pleasing room. If you are in a dedicated journey in revamping your room, have fun and good luck!
