With everyone stuck in their homes due to the persistence of the pandemic, everyone is practically bored sitting inside the walls of their houses with nothing to do. Gone were the days that made you want to dress up in style to go to the grocery store, the days where you want to wear your favorite dress walking around the park, or just want to go out on any normal occasion. And also due to this, people are trying to find other ways to enjoy themselves while they're stuck in their homes. Well, we're no exception. Also, enjoying new hobbies can be so expensive thus one needs to improvise.
The e-Girl aesthetic alone is also another aesthetic that can be expensive especially considering the wigs that you one has to buy to sport the aesthetic, but no need to panic as we have some good news for you with this article. We can show you some tips for you to still sport the e-Girl fashion without having to break the bank! We know you're excite so here is our list!
Take all your black clothes and gather them all in one place
Segregate all your black clothes from the ones that you want to use from the ones that you don't want to use which you are willing to flip. Since the e-girl aesthetic mostly champions thrifting fashion, you will be tasked to do a lot of clothing flipping if you want to try the aesthetic on a budget. Considering that the e-Girl aesthetic fashion focuses a lot on various layers of clothing, you will have to work with a lot on your clothes that you still want to use or not. By making sure that you have segregated all your clothes, we can use the clothing that you don’t want to use any more as the basis of the flipping process, sewing and cutting some of the fabric to suit your tastes that also qualifies under the e-Girl identity.
The clothing that you want to use, you can use them to miss and match for later.
Check your jeans and bottoms
Check all the bottom clothing that you want to use for this aesthetic. Do you have denim shorts? Denim jeans? Or Maybe some black skinny jeans? Take it and see if you can miss and match these bottoms to your tops that you have separated and segregated earlier. Miss and matching is just a simple process whenever you want to be stylish so this wouldn’t be a hard case for you. Remember that when choosing colors for your bottoms, they have to be in the colors black or white, or a combination of both whether checkered, plaid, or whatever matches that these colors can go with. Grays are also good, or even dark colors such as dark green or dark red. Going through Pinterest to check out if your style is alright is a good start for a style check.
Thrift Shopping!
If you feel like you don’t have enough clothes for the aesthetic yet you still want to try it out, going thrift shopping is your way to go. There are a lot of thrift stores that you can go to, right? And you do not have to worry about choosing those large, black, men shirts that you set your eyes on from this one thrift store as you will be thrift flipping these ones later to suit your size, taste, and style!
Some pieces that you want to get on hands-on are black belts that have edgy elements attached to its such as thorns or some silver accessories that are part of the belt itself; a pair of black boots if you don’t have them already; some choker necklaces if they happen to sell those; some fishnet stockings, though I highly suggest that you buy these new; some good pair of pants that you like and; some tops that you want to pair to your bottoms.
Also, don’t be afraid to add in some pop of colors in your outfit. Visualize the e-Girl outfit that you want to be in and then add some colors that you think will fit with it to make it stand out and make it more personalized. It’s highly suggested that you don’t forget that socks are still a part of the fashion style, so going for bright colors for your socks are a good idea, too.
Go Get Your Black Vans
I know you have these pairs of shoes. But if you don’t, then a black pair of Converse Chuck Taylor All Star is also good for the aesthetic. And if you still don’t have these, then any black shoes will do. After all, we are on a budget and we do not want to needlessly buy anything else that isn't necessary with our budget.
Thrift Flip!
Since you already went thrift shopping and already have the clothing items that you think you need for this aesthetic, then it’s about time for you to flip your clothes (this includes the clothing that you segregated from the first part)!
But to have a successful thrift flip, you need to make sure that you have the right materials with you. You will need some dressmaker’s shears (or simply just scissors for sewing), some threads and needles, and maybe a sewing machine if you know how to use them. When flipping your clothes, you really need to know at least the basics of sewing. Considering that you really want to stay on your budget to try out the aesthetic for yourself, you will have to do this at least.
Well, if you don’t really know how to sew, you can start simply by cutting your thrift tops (and/or the old clothes that you gathered) into crop tops or to a length that you are comfortable with. Here’s a simple blog article that helps you start with thrift flipping.
And if you’re still not comfortable with that, here’s a Youtube video by Best Dressed’s Ashley while flipping her own thrifted clothes:
Borrow Your Parents’ Makeup
At this time, it is already a common assumption the people own their very own makeup kits by now regardless of age just as long as you are in the stage of puberty or past it. Since the amount of people advertising makeup on the internet is large considering that most influencers right now also do a lot of extravagant makeup styles as part of their line of work, so most likely their followers also have expected to have slowly built their own makeup kits by now.
But if you're not part of this crowd, then this is alright. You can always go and ask your parents to use their makeup kits. After all, the only thing that you have to focus on for the e-Girl makeup is on the colors, mostly on eyeshadows, blushes, and maybe the colors of the brows, too. Although, it would be better if you have eyeliners, foundations, and eyelash mascara of your own as 1) it will be difficult to match other foundation shades to your own, 2) having your own eyeliner and mascara is a practice of good hygiene when it comes to using makeup. But it’s alright if you are still starting.
Color Your Hair
One identifying aspect of being an e-Girl is their colorful hairs. They mostly achieve this through the use of different, high-quality wigs that they buy to make it seem natural from the cameras. Some also maintain their hair by going to salons, have it taken care of it there, and maybe have it colored. But this is the case, not everyone can afford to go to a salon to purchase their services. So instead, you will have to color your own hair for a change if you want to try this aesthetic. If you know how to color your hair, great! If you also feel like bleaching your hair first, that’s alright, too! After all, bleaching your hair will make your hair color pop more with this aesthetic.
But, if the situation is not applicable to you and you do not know how to color your hair or are too nervous to have your hair colored or bleached, then that’s also alright! In this case, you might want to have your hair cut, specifically, you just need to get some bangs. Or, you can just get some strands of your hair and colors those as highlights. The choice is up to you.
Bring Out Your Old Colorful Hair Clips and Accessories from When You Were a Kid
Remember those cute hairpins that you used to have when you were a child? Well, you’re in luck if you still have those as you will be using those for this aesthetic. It can be anything or in any form just as long as you can just pin it on your hair in any manner you want it to be.
Stick to Silver Accessories
Silver accessories are essential in this aesthetic especially those chains that you see in some else's pants or even just on the silver necklaces they use. So, if you have some kind of silver accessories, you can sport that with this aesthetic.
But if you don't have one, ask for accessories from your parents, even the simple ones. After all, you can just style in a way that you will prefer so just having a collection of these accessories wouldn't hurt.
Edit Your Photos Like A Pro
Last but not the least, this is probably the cheapest option you can do if you want to be an e-Girl and you don't have any budget whatsoever. If you really don't have anything else that you can do, then plainly editing your photos is the way to go! You can edit your makeup by editing your selfie, for example. You can also add some other elements to make your makeup seem subtle to add more noise to your photo. This will take time and inspiration, but if you want to try it, go ahead.
