Do you happen to follow someone on social media whose whole life is just about being cute and having all the cutest things in the world. Maybe from time to time, you're having thoughts of being inspired to try all the kawaii stuff for yourself. Having a kawaii or aesthetic lifestyle is just a dream come true for many girls, but the said lifestyle is not just about looking cute on the inside. There are many aspects that you need to consider to be a full blown aesthetically kawaii girl. But you can actually recycle a lot of your existing clothes and accessories and even old toys to make everything around you to be just so cute to look at.
First, let's see what Kawaii and Aesthetic means, for those who don't know. According to Wikipedia:
Kawaii (Japanese: かわいい or 可愛い, pronounced [kaɰaiꜜi];"lovely", "lovable", "cute", or "adorable")[1] is the culture of cuteness in Japan. It can refer to items, humans and nonhumans that are charming, vulnerable, shy, and childlike.[2] Examples include cute handwriting, certain genres of manga, and characters like Hello Kitty and Pikachu.
and;
Aesthetics, or esthetics (/ɛsˈθɛtɪks, iːs-, æs-/), is a branch of philosophy that deals with the nature of beauty and taste, as well as the philosophy of art (its own area of philosophy that comes out of aesthetics). It examines subjective and sensory-emotional values, or sometimes called judgments of sentiment and taste.
So from here, you should now have an idea on what this lifestyle is but if not, we can walk you through on how to get started and how you can apply this concept to your everyday life.
1. Think of the theme

First off, you need to know what kind of kawaii style or the aesthetic that you want to embody for yourself, because this is where you're going to start with. If you have a theme, it will be easier for you to choose the style of clothing that you need, and also the decorations for your bedroom or house. It can be cartoon characters, or maybe you just want to stick to a certain color palette.
2. Upgrading your wardrobe

Now, this step doesn't necessarily mean that you have to throw everything away once and for all, you may have a lot of stuff lying around that you can use. If you have some pastel, rainbow colored or any member of the kawaii hues, even if it's just a simple shirt, you can definitely use them. If you have old toys that you can recycle into something cute, like a tiny kawaii keychain that you can upgrade as an hair accessory, or maybe you can use them to personalize your bags into kawaii bags by sewing them on to add more detail into them.
Let's get back to clothes, you can try to get as much kawaii and pastel pieces of clothing you can, one by one, then try to mix and match them with your old clothes to create the cutest, aesthetically pleasing style.
3. Accessories

There are plenty of kawaii accessories for hauling so you can match them with the color palette you're going with. Pinks, greens, blues, or anything as long as they pass into the pastel hue or kawaii color. Like I said on the previous step, hair accessories can be recycled or you can make them from scratch. There are a lot of tutorials online on how to make kawaii hairpins or other hair accessories, if you want to be more creative. If not, you can just purchase them from the store of your choice.
Also, go for bracelets, necklaces, chokers, ankle bracelets, just any kind of accessories you can think of, most of the time, you need to consider child like looking accessories, like what your 5 year old sister would wear. It is important to be covered from head to toe with kawaii goodness so always keep that in mind.
4. Smell like a treat
Now that you got your wardrobe taken care of, consider smelling sweet, I'm talking about perfume or scents that will make you smell like a dream, sweet fruit, or a cupcake. Just anything along those lines, then you're good. Just make sure that it won't be super overwhelming that will make your friends wrinkle their noses, we would not want that. Remember, your new aesthetic lifestyle is not just about appearing sweet and cute, it's also about smelling one, too.
5. Start a collection of plushies and toys
If you do not own any of these beforehand, better start stacking up. Maybe you have your old plushies that can be considered kawaii or may be added to your overall aesthetic so grab them out of their boxes and find a place for them in your bedroom or house. Toys based on 80s and 90s cartoon characters would be great, too. Hello Kitty, My Melody, Sailor Moon and many more like this would be a great choice.
If you want start looking for cute plushies for your new collection, check out this set of kawaii huggables and maybe you will find something that would fit your preferences.
You will need to find a space for them so you can show them off one by one, maybe some of them resting on your bed, or put up a shelf dedicate to these cuties.
6. Aesthetic room decorating 101

You might need to remove some room decors here and there, specially if they would not go with your new color palette that you want. Just bear in mind that if you decide to embrace this kawaii lifestyle, you need to consider a lot of things, like completely re-decorating your room.
You might need to rip out some old poster to be replaced by cute artworks, either done by you or something that you purchased. The walls of your room is also one thing that you need to change if ever they are too dark. Colors like pastels or really light colors that would go with any kawaii decorations you will put up, like white, light pink or a very light peach color.
Now, the items you can collect are supposed to be really close to the color palette you chose, for example, your furniture should be white with touches of pink items if you're going for the classic kawaii bedroom (where everything is pink). But that's just an example.

7. Act kawaii, eat kawaii

This one is optional but if you really want to be in the moment, you can try change the way you act, talk or even laugh. Try to watch anime and see the body language of kawaii characters as well as how they talk, eat and everything else they do. Now, it's up to you if you want to incorporate that or not. You can stand in front of your mirror and check which movements suits you or if a certain cute voice suits you well.
Another thing you can do is start learning how to make the food you eat really cute, and this concept is very common in Japan and they call them bento boxes, where they prepare a cutely arranged lunch box (which are pretty hard to eat at first because they are just too cute) with many food elements included inside to make it absolutely kawaii.
